I heard that they re-use the colonoscopy equipment on many patients and that it’s not always cleansed and sterilized properly. This is GROSS. What if the person prior to you had HIV? I’m sure this could be passed on to the next person or some kind of wicked infection?
Why doesn’t each person get new equipment like they do when a colonic is done? I imagine it’s the health care system in the US just tryin to save a buck, and to Hell with the patient’s health.

I just had a colonoscopy which the doctor discovered I had a hole which he called a Fistula, that went on & on. So now have to have acouple of tests, then surgery but haven’t went to the surgeon yet. Guess after the tests are done & results come back, will then see the surgeon. But am wondering what type of surgery is done for this. I have searched the internet & can’t find anything on this except to certain conditions that I don’t have.

I already know to take fiber and watch what I eat, but it seems EVERYTHING I eat makes me cramp and have to go to the bathroom, especially in the mornings??
What can I do about this?
I am missing out on doing so much b/c I feel so sick all the time…
{I’ve had a colonoscopy to rule out more serious conditions}
I’m 23 too!

I heard that Napolean died because he had a daily enema administered. I have suffered from severe constipation for the past 3 years. Doctors find nothing wrong with me, and say I’m too young (43 years old) for a colonoscopy. Laxatives don’t work, so I use filtered water enemas to defecate. Can I die from too many enemas?

I’m having a colonoscopy and my doctor asked me to use one at 6 am and one at 8 am before the colonoscopy, but the instructions on the box say using more than 1 in 24 hours can be harmful. any advice?

A person very dear to me had colon cancer in 2007 and had a successful surgery to remove the tumor. She also had some months of coadyuvant therapy (chemo?). There have been further (clean) colorectal exams but I wonder which other exams are ordered in the first year or two following the surgery to guard against possible spread to other organs?
She has regular blood exams, every 6 months. Had recently (1 yr) a colonoscopy that came out good. But no CT scan which is what worries me.

I may be jumping the gun but I am curious. All we know at this point is there was a mass found in the proximal transverse colon during a routine colonoscopy and were told that open surgery (colon resection surgery) will probably be recommended from the surgeon. The mass ‘appears’ benign but no biopsy was done since it could not be reached to take a biopsy during the colonoscopy due to the location of the mass. We are currently waiting for the surgeon appointment.

I have been on Suboxone for about 4 months at 8mg. I have been extremely constipated the whole time. When I say constipated, I mean I have a bowel movement every couple weeks. And the only way I have a bowel movement is by taking a laxative and when I take the laxative I take 3 times the dosage. And then I still only have a very small movement. I have gained 10lbs and my eating habilts haven’t changed. So I know the only reason for the weight gain is because I don’t have any movements. I don’t know where all the food I eat is going, but I am very scared. I went to my gastro guy and he gave me a new constipation med and that didn’t even work. I also have taken phospho soda, which is something you take before a colonoscopy to clean out your colon. And that didn’t work. I have sent away for that Dual Action Cleanse you see on TV and I asked my gastro guy about it and he said I could take it if I wanted to. So if anyone knows what I could do about this please let me know.

If you are sure that you have IBS, do you have to have a colonoscopy done or can the doctor just prescribe the medication that you need to be "normal"?
